Meet Kay Balkunas, RD, CDE
CERTIFIED IN Integrative and Functional Nutrition!
FOOD IS AT THE ROOT OF ALL CHRONIC DISEASES
Hello! My name is Kay and I have been a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator for over 20 years.
I decided at age 10, after meeting a dietitian during a brief hospital stay, this was my calling. Over the years I have worn many hats in the field, including chef, clinical dietitian, bariatric dietitian, Diabetes Educator, pediatric/ family dietitian, nutrition adviser for the Olympic track team and functional nutritionist.
I attended SUNY-Oneonta and received my Bachelor of Science in Dietetics followed by a year long clinical internship and numerous masters level classes in Medical Biology at Long Island University. Moving to Savannah, I opened my first private practice for 9 years and have now been doing the same in Connecticut.
My patients deserve an individualized plan based on their lifestyle (epigenetics) AND their genetic (DNA) makeup. I have been a provider for NUTRIGENOMIX since 2018, having personally tested my genetic makeup, learning so many things about my caffeine metabolism, vitamin metabolism, gluten sensitivity , metabolism, exercise etc.
This has allowed me to tailor my diet for my GENES and I have reaped the benefits since.
Let me know if you are interested in doing the same!
